The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program requires you make 120 qualifying payments in order to be eligible for forgiveness.

So – what is a qualifying payment?

A qualifying payment as the following characteristics:

• Made after October 1, 2007
• The payment was for the full amount on your bill
• You were employed by a qualifying employer on a full-time status
• Your payment was made no later than 15 days after your due date
• The payment was made during an eligible period. Ineligible periods are while you are in a grace period, forbearance, deferment, or have an “in-school” status
