What is a qualifying payment towards the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program?
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program requires you make 120 qualifying payments in order to be eligible for forgiveness.
So – what is a qualifying payment?
A qualifying payment as the following characteristics:
- Made after October 1, 2007
- The payment was for the full amount on your bill
- You were employed by a qualifying employer on a full-time status
- Your payment was made no later than 15 days after your due date
- The payment was made during an eligible period. Ineligible periods are while you are in a grace period, forbearance, deferment, or have an “in-school” status
